Wake up, Eat, Netflix, Repeat: 5 Ways To #Quarantine
It is now day twenty- something in quarantine, and at this point all the days are starting to jumble together in our minds and turn into one of those never ending Phineas and Ferb episodes. We have most likely exhausted the use of Netflix's library of movies and television shows and the ample amount of free time is starting to get to us. Have no fear, India is here to guide you with 5 productive ways to make use of the infamous 2020 quarantine that will be in our generations psyche forever.
Take the time to thank yourself
1. Reflect, Reflect, Reflect
Reflection can come in many forms, you can write your thoughts down in a daily journal, meditate, or simply write a list of short-term and long-term goals. Do not wake up after all of this is over to realize you never used this opportunity to pour into yourself.
Take a moment to look closely on your accomplishments and weaknesses pre-quarantine. This can be a blessing in disguise if you allow it to be. Are there any bad habits that you want to kick? Or, are there business ideas that have been put on hold because you told yourself that you didn't have enough time because of your busy schedule? Now is the perfect time to jump start the process with the least amount of distractions around.

2. Clean your space
A wise man once said "a cluttered space is a cluttered mind." Organize your new headquarters. It is where you are going to spend most of your time anyway. The act of cleaning is therapeutic as well. So, play your favorite music and reward yourself afterwards with a glass of wine or hot tea. I am a firm believer that the way your space looks is a direct reflection of what is going on internally. So, clean it up!
Reading "The Art of Seduction" by Robert Greene
3. Read a book
Youtube can only go so far. Pick up that self-help book that your friend has been recommending for the past year or escape into a land of fantasy for about an hour a day. There are many benefits to reading. According to Lifehack.org, reading can reduce stress, and stimulate the mind which can help against diseases like Alzheimer's. Reading can also increase your vocabulary. You are never too old to stop learning!
Here are some of my favorite books I've read so far; Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, What Truth Sounds Like by Michael Eric Dyson, Revolutionary Suicide by Huey P Newton, and The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey.
Be mindful
4. Try Something New
Time is of the essence! Make your first Tik Tok video, start a YouTube channel, or draw a masterpiece. We have the rare pleasure of having the time to explore ourselves. My favorite hobby is adjusting and creating new vision boards, yours can be cultivating a new song on Garageband, if you have apple. Do not limit yourself and get stuck into a mental cycle of wake up, eat, Netflix, repeat. I almost allowed myself to join the funk, but it did nothing for me mentally or spiritually.
Pick up the phone
5. Check in on loved ones
Stress levels are high and anxiety is circulating through media outlets and Facebook posts. Call your older relatives and lift their spirits by showing that we are all in this together. Invite a few friends over (keep under 10) and help feed each other with gathering food to make a big meal. A little can go a long way. It only takes 5 mins to lift someone's spirit by showing you value their presence and want to make sure they are ok mentally.
The point is to show the world may be on lock down, but our minds are free. Remain calm and get your creative juices flowing. The goal is to come out on the other side stronger than before. Bills and finances are real stressors that need to be addressed but there are systems in place to try to alleviate that, file unemployment, reach out to companies and see what do they have to offer if you are affected by COVID-19. Get in tune with your spiritual self and keep the faith. We are in this together!
